WHO KNOWS - ALL NEW INFORMATION

Doesn't appear to be American with that crown on it. The sides of the top part don't align with the sides of the bottom part, so it appears that it's top was removeable at one time. My vote is a match safe. You know, an old wooden match holder. The top doesn't move NOW, but maybe it was pulled and pushed on and off, rather than twisted on and off, when it was new.

I think that the mark is a makers mark for a particular company.I think the top comes off.I think it is either a lipstick tube or a perfume (solid type) tube. Then again if it is one piece and solid it could still be a wax stamp for sealing envelopes, most were fancier, however some were "generic" in styling except for the actual stamp mark itself. JMO-Interesting find!

Years back, I found something of a cylindrical shape and size similar to this, no top emblem. Difference is, it had the name of a hotel which I cannot recall. I contacted the hotel, and no one had any recollection of the item. When I finally got it open, what was inside was a small rotted and rusted sewing kit, the needles pretty much disintegrated on touch. I'm guessing the hotel gave this out complimentary to their guests back in the day.

Foolish me, I left it in my purse with a very cool soldier I had found as well. Purse was stolen.... >:(

I would think it should be quite easy to discern if it is hollow or solid by weight, noise when tapped, etc. If it is a stamp it appears that it would have been made to stamp something soft, not metal. If it is hollow can you shake it in different directions and listen close for any noise of something that may or may not be inside?

Now that I look closer it definetly looks like the top comes off, look at how the corners aren't quite aligned, there's little chance it would have been forged or cast like that.

Just some thoughts... -MMA

Can't speculate on the tube thingy. The other appears to be a scale scoop hook.

The item on the left looks like a small hook type deal. Is it hinged?

Have had no luck opening.

I think it is hollow; when I used pliers
trying to open it bent on sides. Which
would tell me lipstick or holder for some
item.

all have a good un............

I'm just looking at the picture of the mystery tube and you're holding it in your hand so this probably won't be of any help. The grooved line running up the side seems to break at what would be the "lid", and then continue to the top out of line suggesting the top part should be removable. Not that you haven't tried, but could it be if the top slides into the bottom it could be the type that had to be shoved in first and then twisted. There maybe a "dimple" in the bottom part that would make the "catch" on the inside. Anyway we all like a good mystery and have enjoyed all your posts.

Might try the freezer for several hours. Contracting the metal onto any crud that is inside the 'lid' (if it is one) may loosen it some. Then immediately toss it into really hot water. I saw an arch bridge expand to close a gap, that was over a footwide, for final bolting. The gap closed after the sun heated it for aonly 30 minutes or so. Notsure of how well itwill work on a micro scale. Always worth a try, right?

I like Mr. Food's suggestion on the cold then hot idea to see if you can get the cover off. Is there a match Co. that has that insignia?

Really neat find I'd say it's a keeper!

You have a good un too Sherm!

I am not 100% sure, but the cylinder object looks just like the piston in a milking machine. It is located in the box that plugs into the milk pipeline. Since you found it on a farm it stands to reason that could be what it is.... I live on a dairy farm and have taken quite a few of the pulse boxes apart.... Hope this helps... If you need a pic to compare it to, i am sure i can find one on-line for you. Good luck.... and happy hunting :)
