That stinks! Did you know right away? You sure? The buckle plate does look too perfect though. Walmart sells one for $4.10.
 

I think one I found recently was a repro, but not sure. Yeah, they stink when they lose stuff.
 

Been there, done that. I have a 150+- acres I hunt that has two re-enactments per year. I don't mind digging the hardware items but the casings are a real pain, I don't notch them out because they also have International motocross races and don't want to miss any jewelry that was dropped, which is the main reason I hunt there.

They drop stuff. I was doing some filming years ago and this one guy in a Confederate uniform is walking in circles stating "I lost a button".

They had a re-enactment at this farm and across the street at a church I did this past summer, only sign there was one yankee cuff button. I hit the belt plate first hole and we both knew what it was. It was still fun to find and I’ll repurpose it for a digging belt probably.
