WHO DETECTS WITH THEIR SPOUSE?

I tried detecting with my wife too and she did better than the detector!? The only thing that beats her is my dog that dug up my coin garden and ran away.? I sure miss that mangy mutt.? My wife complains that sticks, leaves and dirt get in her hair, so I started swinging her feet first.? She says I need sensitivity training but I think it has more to do with discrimination.? And I never need headphones.? You can hear her for several blocks. She hates being used as a detector but she likes to be carried around.? ?She threatened to leave me until I said to go ahead, I'm coming with you.? She said I was not and we are still arguing over that one.? I think I'll buy a mobile home so I can take it with me if I decide to leave her.? That would mess up her mind.? Actually we hardly ever argue, mainly because she's always right and I know it.? I thought I was right once but I was wrong.? What was the topic anyway?? Oh yes, metal detecting with your wife.? Better mine than somebody else's I suppose?? No, she stays home and I go it alone but she's always welcome to come along.? Monty?

I've been married for 36 years and the only thing we do together is-well that topic is for another site, anyway I don't want her with me because I don't want her to ruin my day.

GOD, took the words right of my mouth. Years ago I took her with me to the local hobby shop, complain city!, took her camping, complian city!, on the camping trip, in the morning she asked me where she can plug in HER hair rollers, I said HUH?, complain city!
SO take her with my metal detecting--------------DON'T THINK SO!!----------------------- I detect like a happy clam!

I just read through all your replies----there sure are a lot of men out there who MD vs women! I took my husband with me once, and he mainly wanted to clad hunt, so we hit a park. Did o.k., but then he ended up sitting on a bench watching me hunt, while the other adults at the park all kept an eye one the guy sitting alone on the bench! Since then, he's shown no interest, even though I return home after most hunts with interesting stuff. I think he prefers to "play" with his trucks and other heavy equipment. He hauls dirt; I dig in it! Ninety- nine percent of the time, I do hunt with a male hunting buddy. He shows a lot more interest in my finds, and I prefer having someone hunt with me vs hunting solo. ~ MB36

Dannygee,
My wife Bobbie detects with me . We started detecting together back in 2001, she said she thought that it always looked like fun. She took to it like a duck to water. We too for the most part are empty nesters, youngest son getting married in June, so we use detecting as" our " time together. I have had other detecting partners over the previous 30 years but none ever had the enthusiasm as Bobbie does. She is very proficient and consistantly makes good finds. But like the Master Card commercial says these times are pricelss to me.

I hunt without my husband. He went with me a couple of times but only to sit at a picnic table or bench. He worries about me being alone so he makes an effort to at least be there (sometime). He thinks it's a dumb way to spend your time but then he (and my son) is into demo derbies and I hate those. He builds them and my son does the driving. I go with them but do not enjoy them at all. Too noisy! Ah well, to each his/her own.

My wife goes with me when I go out of town to hunt .She doesn't detect but she's right there beside me to carry my finds.Sometimes she has to go back and sit in the car in the a/c.She takes medication that doesn't allow her to be in direct sunlight too long.We have a pair of those two way radios(walkie-talkies) we keep in touch with.Sometimes she gets a little paranoid ,depending on where we're at.She supports me 100%.I once found a pocketknife and an old quarter that her late brother used for target practice out on our land. He's been gone for 20 years now, that brought a tear to her eye.H.H.-diggummup

i was bit by the gold bug about 3 years ago researched it on and off for a year got into the geology aspect of it and realized the only gold in Illinois is so Small that it takes a lot of digging and classifying to find it.then i found out about that" hey, people metal detect for precious metal etc"so id figured id give it a shoot .bought a low end machine about 2 weeks before Christmas,OPPPPS!guess what she bought me for X-MAS, yup!ne way around April of this last year spent over 800 bucks on a new detector,MAN O MAN WAS SHE HOTT!wouldn't talk to me for 2 days well after explaining to her the merits of my new machine ,after a few months. the amount and the quality of my finds had gone way up her interest is less "oh cool....."to more like "OH COOL!!!"she tags along once in a while with me using the low end machine which has no pinpoint feature.i kept finding myself walking over to her to pinpoint for her.so the one day i called her "lunch box"(cause i had to carry her as far as some skill areas go)OPPPS,YUP!so then every time i asked after that id ask "want to go" she would give me "your brown bagging it today" talk about being humbled!!!!now i been thinking of getting her a starter machine with a pinpoint feature..thinking about a tesoro want to try to stay away from a metered machine as far as a garret 250 goes but after reading the merits of the Deleon Zeb mentioned in another post. HMMMM I'm on the fence....
