I have been watching ebay etc for these (prefer a 6000/d pro hip mount) have noticed a trend lately mostly with the 6000D series 3 and pro models. being sold with same issue. they wont power on. sellers say they worked last time used, not exposed to water, heat etc. even tried known good battery packs. I saw a couple sites saying possible fixes of needing more foam replaced on battery door to hold battery box lid tight, check battery box connector tabs even one said the later models had a 2nd circuit board with connector harness prone to loose connections. these things dont seem to be the trouble. short of sending in for costly repairs on top of purchase price. do any veteran users experienced with this series know of other minor things that can cause no power on? the user manuals have no trouble shooting section and seems no web site does either even Whites. I have seen a very informative youtube video on these models a guy tests their abilities and anyone using them should watch it as it shows how to do all the cool things capable. I always wanted one of these since they sold new for like $600. now Im disabled/retired on fixed income but want to use one with kids and grand kids whom can do the digging etc. ;^) any help suggesting what to look for that may save another $100 I cant afford would be great.

Thanks! Mitch, in MO

Mitch, I picked up a vintage 1980's White's coinmaster at a local estate auction and a vintage White's goldmaster at another sale. They were less than $50 each. I replaced the battery packs (broken wires) in both and they have been problem free for 20+ years. I have a Beachhunter ID that I bought new from Kellyco, but still like to use the vintage detectors. All of my power on problems were from bad battery packs. Good luck finding something to use with the grandkids.
