White's Classic III

Anybody own it? How do you like it? And do you think it's worth $125. I saw it online for this price. I have read all of the previous posts on this topic but I'm still a little weary. I don't want to buy it just because it's a good price. I live in AZ and the soil here has a lot of mineralization. I currently use the Ace 250 and know the machine really well. But I want to know if I can benefit better with a White's. Maybe the Classic III or a DFX or MXT.

Any feedback would be great?

Re: White's Classic III

I own a Classic 3 and I will never get rid of it.
It has a switch for highly mineralization soil, I don't know how it hunts in your conditions but here in farm country its excellent. It handles fresh water beeches fine and you can take the coil into the water just don't drop it.
With the Classic 3 it's all about the way a target sounds. Theirs all kinds of little tricks you learn to I.D. targets. The tricks I've learned with mine easily transfers to other detectors.
It gets decent depth, I once dug a silver ring at 6". It handles trashy areas OK with the stock coil. I found the best way to hunt trashy areas is with the disc turned down and pick apart each target.
It's built rugged and takes a lot of punishment like all of Whites products.
If its in good working order it's worth $125 or more.
The DFX and MXT are all together different and if your wanting to move up the ladder there the way to go.

Re: White's Classic III, my 2c

I've owned a White C/III since 2000, for coins & jewerly there's really not much better. Garretts Ace 250 might be close. It's all in the ears with the white, and only practice will make you better. Once you get the different sounds down and what they mean, its a smooth running unit. Pin pointing takes a little practice, but is pretty accurate. I bought White based on thats what the military was using at the time for mine detection etc. I have not been sorry, its tough, and made in the USA. The 8, AA battery's last forever
I've also owned a White 2000, XL Pro 6000, a good unit, but heavy, and the little C/lll would out hunt it anyway just would not get the same depth, or had all the bells & whistles of the Pro. I lost the Pro in a house fire and never felt the need to replace it.
So if you can get the C/lll at a good price [ -$150 ] you won't go wrong. I'll never get rid of mine. I paid $300 for it new in march 2000.

Re: White's Classic III

It's an IDX without the meter. It takes all the modifications the IDX has available. Like external ground balance and threshold. That is a good price for a pro machine. I had one but sold it for an IDX. I prefer the IDX because the meter gives me another tool. Plus cherry picking is easier.
