Whites Advertisement Lies about the BHID 300

Since whites is going to refund your money.Wouldn't it be nice to tone down the title a bit? lied is a strong word.. I am glad they worked with you and resolved the situation. :icon_thumright:

Why change the title. it is still false advertisement and what is false advertising?

Whites says "near neutral buoyancy", coil should never float to surface if it has near neutral buoyancy....... What is difference between their ad and someone posting ad here saying "Like New condition" detector for sale, and when it arrives you find it full of scratches or dents.....

"Neutral buoyancy is a condition in which a physical body's mass equals the mass it displaces in a surrounding medium. This offsets the force of gravity that would otherwise cause the object to sink. An object that has neutral buoyancy will neither sink nor rise." Wikipedia......

It is good that Whites refunded his money, says a lot about Whites customer service, but Whites should change their false advertising since the coil does float...........

I agree with TH. It's like when someone had an issue with a certain dealer. God forbid you should take a sponsor to task, the thread was removed. It is often the only time something will get resolved is when it brought out in public.

When a company is wrong, they are wrong.

Today I received the full refund for the Whites Beach Hunter ID 300 because the coil floats and is not "near neutral buoyancy." That was the reason I bought it in the first place, for wading. This light weight coil is fine for dry sand searching, but for the water I will stick to other detectors.

Fine Customer Service from Steve Howard at Whites.

Maybe the coil is 'near neutral' in fresh water and Sandman had it in salt water !! Whites may have got him on a technicality !! HA !

Glad he got the refund. It's good to see Whites trying to make all their customers happy. It's better for a company to do that instead of hemming and hawing and getting flamed on the forums. It may have been in the past that these companies did not care about what was said on the forums. I think now the forums are being used as a conduit for a lot of great information not only for the seasoned veterans, but also the newbies wanting to get into the hobby and those wanting to try a different brand, and what is said and posted on the forums about service, quality, etc. is not just being taken with a grain of salt.

I know my buddy is having an awful time with his Minelab Excal II. Had to send the 2 month old detector back ( and he just got it back and the detector is acting up again so he is going to send it back AGAIN ). He was on the phone with several people and asked them if they cared that they were getting hammered on the forums for the turn around time and service. I think Minelab is trying to make things better but I believe they are understaffed too. Thats a tough one when there are lots of detectors coming in for service and you don't have enough techs to fix them in a timely manner.

At least some of these companies are trying to do the best they can and refund when applicable.

UPDATE. :icon_thumleft:

Whites has contacted me and they are going to refund my money. I was going to keep it and add weight to keep it down, but on second thought that would take to much extra work when other detectors don't require it.

Whites service is still A-1 and want to do right with their customers.
you better believe whites has great service,,,,look at all the new v3 that have to go back to the shop,,,,they really stay busy fixing something that just came out,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

With the DF it is better in fresh water but the real point is that Whites should have fitted waterproof connectors to their water machines by now. At one time, don't know if they still do it, you would order a standard or a water coil but its wasn't the best solution.

Connectors would allow a choice of coils and have the advantage that if there seemed to be a fault you could identify if it was at the coil or the control box and if it was the coil just swap for a good one.

Bouyancy is also dependant on salinaty which changes around the world, and temperature, which changes around the world and with the seasons. So, it would be imposssible to make a coil that would be neutrally bouyant everywhere at all times.

True, but since Whites is an American company it should at least be bouyant in the oceans here, and Sand Man was using it in fresh water, in fresh water it should not make a difference...

If a company advertises it's coil as "near neutral buoyant" that means it floats a little bit or sinks a little bit regardless of the water. This coil floated half out of the water when let go of the handle while it was teathered to me. Looked like a yellow sail boat.

It is true that you can add some weight to the shaft to keep from having to hold it down, but this adds water resistance to sweeping it back an forth. Granted a company has a hard time to have one coil that handles both the dry sand hunters and the ones that wade, but seems other companies don't have water detectors that have coils that really float. Minelab, Garrett and Tesoro don't seem to have this problem with floating coils at all with the coils for water detectors. Whites must use one coil for both land and water to save money at our expense.

In Whites defence, they refunded all my money quickly and I am satisfied again. One of the major mail order places advertises water proof headphones for the BHID. The phones that come with the Beach Hunter ID are excellent and are hardwired so why do you need extra headphones for that detector?

Granted the subject line was to grab everyones attention.

There are WADER versions and DIVER versions of the detectors, the only difference being the headphones (Fisher 1280X is another with this ). To make a diver version from a wader version, you need to change the headphones to a fully waterproof type.
