Doc, I would reccomend looking at the Lluvia de oro and Tubares page. I traveled all through this area in the 50's by myself and mule just exploring. It took over a week to reach from Chinapas, It was unpopulated then. At times I went days without meeting anyone.
Not too far from the power plant site ruins is where I saw the 80 ft aquatic serpent in the river while crossing it by swimming. Needless to say, I always wore shorts after this. Had to cross the river twice a day.
On those two bells shown at Tubares, the one from 1700 is in penitence in the name of a woman, I have forgotten her name. the other was from a man, same reason.
I have many stories from this area. I knew Senor Becera when he was a kiddie. His family lived East of the lluvia on the arroyo Balajaqui, half way to the still lost mine of the Gloria Pan. which was my primary objective.
Sigh, many many memories of explorations of weeks that now take only a few hours, not too many bandidios anymore, too peaceful..
