Hitting a new dot in the 1910 map. ImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1508554440.095066.jpg First find I believe is a WW2 whistle, strange but sort of cool. ImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1508554492.333162.jpg
Found a pendant that was identified as a coin holder, went back to find the coin, no dice.ImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1508554587.787388.jpg Here's everything.ImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1508554617.856495.jpg First metal pool pass this year, not very old but this dot is in a popular park so lots of new mixed with old. Any ideas on what this sterling silver thing is?ImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1508554758.234034.jpgImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1508554770.319099.jpgImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1508554782.120732.jpgImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1508554794.120443.jpg It's some kind of silver sleeve over iron, seems old. Pipe stem? Cane tip? Help!

Good luck this weekend!!

It seems a little small for being from a cane tip, and usually cane/walking stick/pointers were wood not iron, as I think weight would be a factor. This does scream familiarness but can't put my minds finger on the ID.

Great saves! I love the military whistle. Maybe your silver piece is from a parasol, or a musical instrument. Congratulations on some keepers!

Great finds. I like those tags, and I'm glad you defined the 1963 tag as not being old, because to those of us born in '63 its not!

Great finds, sounds like a great spot with many more items waiting for you!!! HH

I like wondering...and learning. Your silver item is interesting!

I was thinking old inkwell style pen/quill, but with the iron inside (maybe tubular), your ideas may be closer.ImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1508591392.182786.jpg Thx!

Thx! Confirming the location is half the fun for me. Hiking through the woods with my old map looking for the "X", finding stacked stones, cellar hole or in this case a patch of ivy next to a patch of myrtle with random old bricks and whiskey bottle pieces strewn around. Sometimes I go for the hike and strike out, lots of dots on old maps around here were for oil wells also.

More clues.View attachment 1507295
The top 1/2" is not magnetic, the lower 3/4 is. The upper portion appears to be a thin brass tube inside wood sheathed with the silver. The lower portion has the iron inserted in the brass. I cleaned the dirt out and it is hallow. ImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1508592827.389695.jpg

I don't know about the silver item, but that whistle is really cool.

Congrats on your finds!

Silver thing reminds me of an ink fountain pen. They used to dip the end part (that is missing) into a bottle of ink then lift a little lever to draw the ink up into the pen.
But its just a guess.

Are those coal mine tags or something?

I believe both the miners and the farmers used these tags around SW PA. These are pretty plain ones, but still fun to save a little history.
