While I'm digging musketballs my 13 year old digs this
We know the site to be mid to late 1700's. Musketballs abound. I had been prodding my son to pick up his detector all day, his enthusiasm being little. He finally turns it on and 5 minutes later he comes up to me with this buckle. By what I've seen of old buckles on this forum and magazines I know just enough to suspect that it may be of that era. And what type of buckle is it? I also dug a half of a musketball and in the field with the dirt on it I think, so what, but when I clean it I find that it has a hole on the flat side and a protrusion of lead sticking on the round side. Then I think that maybe someone tried to fashion a button out of a bullet. If this holds true I would guess that the shank has long since rusted away.
