Where There's Wheat There's REALE Silver

The wife wanted me to install front brakes on her vehicle today. :BangHead: I told her it will happen this weekend, but I have to go get some dirt fishing in. I drove North of town and got permission to hunt a farm house that was built in the late 1890's. :icon_thumleft: No keeper coins were found there, but I did find two of the original members of the "Village People", the Indian and Sailor. I also dug a cool older junk broach. I can go back there anytime, great people. I left and looked for a couple permissions in town on a few of the properties that I have been eye balling. One is a rental property. I did talk to one of the tenants and found out where the owner lives.

I couldn't go home yet so I went to the football practice field to swing the coil an postulate where I should go next. I dug some clad and then it dawned on me to go do some tree lawns (curb strips). The dog tag came from a church tree lawn and on another two curb strips in front of older vacant houses I dug 7 wheats (1945, 50Dx2, 51D, 55D, 57D & a 58D). I also dug a 1957 Canadian cent and a 1956 nickel.

Well, since I dug the wheats I figured there just had to be a silver Rosie or something there. Little did I know that I was going to find my oldest coin. I dug a sweet signal and saw a thin silver colored disk, so thin that I thought maybe it was a knock-out of some sort. When I pulled it out I noticed the back of the coin and knew I dug my first Reale. It is very smooth but it has a readable date. 1780 Reale folks, welcome the newest member of the 1700's club. :hello:

Not to bad for an Ohio hunter in a town that was not settled until 1818 I believe. It didn't become a town until the 1830's.

major welcome to the REALEy great club. I have a half, 2 ones and a holed 2 over 4 seasons. likin' the '48 bird band, the soldier who just left a meeting with ISIS, what was he thinking---oh, he wasn't---no head._____some fine dirtfishin' LD

Great job Loco. I can welcome you to the Spanish silver club, but not the 1700's club ( because I'm not in it yet ) . Mine was an 1820 Half Reale.

Congrats LD. When I got the pic, my mouth just fell open... WOW.

The lead toys are sweet too... but Spanish silver... just WOW. Congrats on making the 1700s silver club!

See ya in a couple of weeks!

Congratulations on your Spanish silver. I knew it was just a matter of time before you got one.

Fantastic! You can mark me jealous. I've yet to dig my first reale. Congratulations on entering a new club!

A killer and well deserved find Loco :occasion14: My first 1700's coin was a 1776 1 real. Such an awesome feeling. Well done man!

Congrats Loco one hell of a find , I know how u feel I found that 1855 1/4 reale but my was copper

Dedication, imagination and ingenuity.........
You sure put those qualities to work on your hunts!! Congratulations and keep stackin' those old goodies.........
......oh, and get the brakes done......."happy wife........." :laughing7:

Thanks Chizzy, you just never know what's there until you swing the coil over it. The passion that many of us have for this hobby requires all three traits that you listed to be successful.

Glad to see you getting the good stuff.I always like hearing your input on things always nice things to say . Great job my friend my turn next!!!

Thanks A2 I was raised, "if you can't something good, then say nothing at all" My fingers are crossed that there is a rogue Real in A2 somewhere for you to find.

Thin silver is better than no silver! Old thin silver with a 1700's date is pretty dang good too!
Congratz

Thanks GS, man this is an incredibly thin coin. I'll take it though and I never thought I'd get into the 1700's club just digging locally. Surprise surprise. :headbang:

Congrats buddy, I'm very happy for you, I hope you find some more! :-)

Thanks Treb, now off on the quest to find another bucket lister. The fun never ends.

Congratulations, you hit the bucket list instead of the honey do list! That makes it even better. The hole probably explains how that sweet coin made it to the Midwest. I can only dream of a find like that. Way to go

Thanks Tom, I wish the wife saw it that way. I worked on the brakes right after dinner. I am still working on changing her concept that "She is the center of the Universe, however it's not going so well. :tongue3:
When it's a gotta, it gets done, when it's not it gets done on my schedule. She's not all that bad, we are going to celebrate our 28th anniversary this August. :occasion14:

Awesome coin! I love how it is worn everywhere except the date...perfect! Welcome to the club.

Thanks Mr D Thanks god for the readable date.

The question is not where, but when I will get in your fancy club.:notworthy: Great find !!!

Thanks MDK just know it will happen, the universal law of attraction works in mysterious ways. Thinking it so will help make it so. Stay positive in your everyday like and just know that it will happen.

What can you say except congrats on being the newest member of the 1700's club! All of your instincts were in play that day:thumbsup:

Thanks digger, I thing I used my share of Karma and luck on Saturday. Now I need to reload the Karma. I am planning on stopping by the 1st permission and giving the owner that junk broach that I cleaned up and repaired. I am certain that she will appreciate it.

Congrats to you LD feels good doesn't it. Glad you got your first 1700s real super day

Thanks Trapperart, I am still trying to find sites like the ones you hunt. You pull quality finds on a daily basis. kudos to you.

Congrats on something I'm still hunting for, although its more a Cob I would like, this would do for the time being.

I guess it fixes well with your area, as the 'wear' would suggest a loss in the mid-19th C.

Thanks CRU. It's a great find for Ohio, but someday I'd like to get over to the old world and dig something from a 1 digit century. you certainly pull way more quality finds than I can ever think of digging in the midwest. :notworthy:

why is there a hole in it? could someone have been using it as a necklace?

OH WOW Loco, I would have wet my pants. Nice finds for our Baby State!
Maybe it was dropped by a surveyor?

Absolutely incredible find. That "Holed Coin" was probably a piece of jewelry for someone. One thing for sure, it wasn't minted in Ohio.
Congrats

Thanks ATW, I see you have been digging some goodies on your last few hunts. I hope to see you post a REAL real soon.

Love to see Spanish...been a while for me!

Thanks romeo, you still dig way more older coins than me. I appreciate the fact that you posting here for my find.

A hearty congratulations, Loco! Spanish silver and two old toy soldiers too. What a day to remember. Sub 8-)

Thanks Sub. Last year provided me with many great days, looks like this year will bring many more. they will display nicely with the lead machine gunner I dug last year.

LD!! You found a Reale!!!!! Awesome!! You must be stoked! On my bucket list, I'm still searching. You had me laughing with the village people thing. Congrats and HH

Thanks DD I am still stoked, but I was still excited to see a Merc in the hole yesterday. Glad you are old enough to get "the Village People" line. Life can be too serious at times.

Heck of a find with a great story, welcome to the 1700s man, what a feeling right? Killer spanish silver!

Thanks cj, glad to join you in the club. I've been looking forward to joining for quite a while now.

Thanks POE I'm hoping to find more varieties like the ones you dug. I was guessing that it was a bird band, more than likely from a Canada Goose? :dontknow: I believe the Indian may have donated his head to the Cleveland Indians for their logo. :tongue3:

Man that baby is smooth, but still a good find congrats Loco..

Thanks PP, gotta love a smooth coin that has a readable date.

Great job Loco. I can welcome you to the Spanish silver club, but not the 1700's club ( because I'm not in it yet ) . Mine was an 1820 Half Reale.

Thanks TH, you'll get into the 1700s club, I am sure of it.

Thanks Tom. you were the 1st one I sent a pic to. Here it is Monday and I'm still stoked. :headbang: Looking forward to coming down your way and swinging with the Silver Mafia. Now don't go digging them all up before I get there. :laughing7:

Congratulations on your Spanish silver. I knew it was just a matter of time before you got one.

Thanks Steve I am glad you had faith in me. :notworthy: Man what a great addiction this dirt fishing has become. Heck we all could be doing worse things.

Fantastic! You can mark me jealous. I've yet to dig my first reale. Congratulations on entering a new club!

Thanks Tommy, don't get jealous, just go find one yourself. there's plenty out there. It sure is a great feeling to find a coin that get's you into 2 new clubs.

A killer and well deserved find Loco :occasion14: My first 1700's coin was a 1776 1 real. Such an awesome feeling. Well done man!

Thanks OA, I like the date of yours (1776) better though. Oh well I'll be happy with the one I dug.

Congrats Loco one hell of a find , I know how u feel I found that 1855 1/4 reale but my was copper

Thanks Jim, nothing wrong with a copper one. You have one more copper reale that I have. GL & HH

DUDE. That's killer! Welcome to the 1700's indeed! Congrats!

Thanks for the post and the welcome Skippy.

why is there a hole in it? could someone have been using it as a necklace?

Yes clenell I believe it was on a string or leather lace and used as a necklace.

OH WOW Loco, I would have wet my pants. Nice finds for our Baby State!
Maybe it was dropped by a surveyor?

Thanks NEO, i've learned to wear a pair of depends just in case something like this happens. :tongue3: I did a happy dance for sure. It may have been dropped by a surveyor, who knows :dontknow: I'm just glad to have swung my coil over it.

Awesome finds. The reale is sweet. My first one was 1737 and also had a hole in it! [emoji106]

Thanks K1DDO, hole or not it's gorgeous to me. I'm working on finding something older. Going to NY & NJ this weekend to see what I can find with Scrappy and Eastcoast hunter21. I am so looking forward to swinging the coil with those 2. They are a riot, if you ever get a chance to meet them, by all means, DO IT!!!
