I agreed with the Church theory & maybe a dedication, however I'll throw one other theory, as they are all men it might be a group of Masons.

The new photo is a great find. I'd love to say, "Yes! That's it!". But I'm not convinced...

This was my frustration in looking at New England Gothic Revival churches. Many are very similar in construction.

I just read about the Great Fire of Bangor Maine - April 30 - May 1, 1911. Seven churches and synagogues were destroyed in the city.

There are lots of period photos of ruins from the fire. I saw several other Gothic style building in ruins that were not churches - schools and government buildings.

Maybe this is a rededication during the rebuild? With flag and bunting maybe 4th of July?
