At about 8" I start filling the hole back up. But I'd be happy with that deep iron if I would have gone another 16" down. Cool piece!

Well Terry I guess these guys never heard of Dutch Schultz and the story about a buried steel box full of Gold and Silver coins and jewelry. It is buried up in the Rhinebeck area of N.Y. State.
Sounds just like a cast iron oven door off an old stove.
