It was a great day diggin! I was called up to check out a property for a homeowner before his new grass goes in. So I made a quick impromptu trip out there for a site survey. I very much wanted to find something old for him, but came up with nothing but dozens of fired bullet, casongs, fishing sinkers, and pulltabs. On the way home i stopped at an old-faithful for the last hour of daylight. Nothing super old (or at least I can't tell) .... But if you're going to find new metal, its always better when its shiny and yellow!!!

The three stone ring I think is newer, and stamped 10kp (karats plumb)

The smaller ring came out in two pieces :( I hand sifted the dirt back into the hole looking for a stone, but I guess it wasn't meant to be. Bummer. There are no markings on the band, and it has an older look to it. I look forward to getting it checked out by an expert.

It had been a couple years since I've dug any gold, and now three gold rings in just a few weeks, two in one day. Crazy how it works sometimes.

Thanks for reading, happy hunting, and God bless.

Hope that it pours more frequently for you! Glad your slump is over and congrats on the finds!

Gz on the gold!!!
TFS and HH

Your first ring is called a "birthstone" ring btw.

Thanks y'all! This jewelry is a change of pace from my usual hunting. But if it can't be old it might as well be gold! Lol

Congratz on finding gold!

Nice still looking for my first two gold day, the broke ring does look older to me too , I'd guess 14k from the color in the picture hope it is that or better for you !

KP = Karat Plated. Sorry.

Thanks for the help! Google searching brings up tons of links that define "kp" as "karat plumb" or exactly that amount of gold without any negative tolerance. So I believe from everything that I've read that it's sold, not plated. Could be wrong though, you never know. I'm taking them in to get looked at anyways, just for fun.

2 gold rings in one hunt, does'nt happen often in the hobby. Center stone use to be mother's birth month color and the others were the children's I think. Nice finds, WTG!

So I just got them checked it. The unmarked ring tested by X-ray at solid 10k. The mothers ring she said was a "weird" reading by X-ray, jumping around and more like 18k. So she did a scratch and acid test, and said it was solid 10k. She suspected it may have been at one time plated with a high karat gold to change the color of it, and that's why it xrayed strange. That also would account for the odd coloring around the prongs, which shows up a lot more in the pictures wih flash than in person.

Tl;Dr version - both are 10k. Very cool!

Oh, also, the store I wanted to go to that specializes in estate jewelry was closed, and the place I took it wasn't able to speculate stylistically about the age on the unmarked one. So I'll have to bring it by the other place sometime, still doubt I'll get a guess but worth a shot!
