Smokey had mercy on me or just wanted me to quit whining about relic withdrawal this fall. So we hit a patented Smokey permission in Virginia, a hard hit CW camp that makes you earn your finds - plenty of nasty red dirt and nails and rocks and roots. But if you score, its usually something cool, unusual, or both. We scraped and clawed and came up with the usual suspects that informed us we were in a "hot" spot - charcoal, glass shards, massive camp lead, pristine corrosion-free square nails (indicating they were annealed in fire), button backs, and misc brass items. Then things really heated up as Smokey's Deus scored a couple minies including a Sharps and a carved chess piece minie. Then my Deus wanted in on the action and scored an Eagle coat button and my first piece if CW regimental hat brass ("2"). Wowsa. Smokey finished off the day with a nice brass strap buckle.

Smokey never fails to bring me somewhere that allows me to walk away with a first-of-kind something I haven't snagged before. So when I get the call, I always say "yes" cause its gonna be good.

Deus is probably the best machine I've seen that can sniff the keepers out of a mess like that without driving you bonkers from falses and and shear target audio overload.

Still looking for the right opportunity to deploy the new Equinox 15" coil. Smokey just laughed at me when I first pulled that coil out of the truck and told me that ain't gonna work where we're going. Out came the Deus, of course. But the 6-inch Equinox coil got a little workout too. Equinox behaved OK in that torture chamber with the 6 inch coil and could ID a few non-ferrous targets ok but Deus definitely had the upper hand this time out and gave the smoother "ride".

Enjoy the pics.

Great hunt vferrari! I’ve taken to running silencer at -1 on my base program and found that the Deus hits hard and with confidence in iron infested sites as a result. I love having both machines, but I’ve been getting just a bit more out of the Deus lately. I think that Santa is getting me the 6 inch coil for the Equinox, I can’t wait to try it out!

Ive left a few #2s in the woods that would not be a good thing to find. lol cool button and relics The deuce found a cool deuce Happy Holidays

Hey A2 ask Possum about the big old rusty relic I told him I found and left behind a big oak yesterday. He went and checked it out for me. Lol

Way to go V!!! Congrats of some great finds. I have been getting better with the pitch program and am using the X35 9" coil. Funny thing about our hobby, we get the scratch itched but the better the finds the worse the next itch is. I call it being addicted. I hope that we all get it scratched again soon. Happy hunting all.

That title had me thinking cow patty :)
Awesome finds
Congrats to the both of you...

Well it now makes sense! Now I gotta find me some #2:icon_thumleft:

You got that right, Gene. At least this addiction isn't usually fatal. Are you frozen in yet or headed south west for the winter again?
