Smokey had mercy on me or just wanted me to quit whining about relic withdrawal this fall. So we hit a patented Smokey permission in Virginia, a hard hit CW camp that makes you earn your finds - plenty of nasty red dirt and nails and rocks and roots. But if you score, its usually something cool, unusual, or both. We scraped and clawed and came up with the usual suspects that informed us we were in a "hot" spot - charcoal, glass shards, massive camp lead, pristine corrosion-free square nails (indicating they were annealed in fire), button backs, and misc brass items. Then things really heated up as Smokey's Deus scored a couple minies including a Sharps and a carved chess piece minie. Then my Deus wanted in on the action and scored an Eagle coat button and my first piece if CW regimental hat brass ("2"). Wowsa. Smokey finished off the day with a nice brass strap buckle.

Smokey never fails to bring me somewhere that allows me to walk away with a first-of-kind something I haven't snagged before. So when I get the call, I always say "yes" cause its gonna be good.

Deus is probably the best machine I've seen that can sniff the keepers out of a mess like that without driving you bonkers from falses and and shear target audio overload.

Still looking for the right opportunity to deploy the new Equinox 15" coil. Smokey just laughed at me when I first pulled that coil out of the truck and told me that ain't gonna work where we're going. Out came the Deus, of course. But the 6-inch Equinox coil got a little workout too. Equinox behaved OK in that torture chamber with the 6 inch coil and could ID a few non-ferrous targets ok but Deus definitely had the upper hand this time out and gave the smoother "ride".

Enjoy the pics.

Congrats on the cool finds! Glad the Deus did so well for you. I just can’t seem to part with mine.

Hi, nice finds. Congrats:icon_thumleft:

Yes, I literally laughed out loud when I saw that 15" coil, as I KNEW on the first swing there would be five or more iron targets under it. The Deus won the day for both of us. The Sharps bullet I found had a cut in it also, so someone started to carve it. V's eagle button is a coat and gorgeous. I used the Deus longer into the day so got more overall non ferrous keepers. The Equinox just wasn't up to the job. This was a camp, so much unlike a lawn or battlefield. Every time I get one of those little raincoat grommets under the coil I think I have a button! Oh the horror of it. I am now retired. Watch out relics!

Guess where I'm going in an hour?

And the thread title is exceptional.

I like that number 2! I can understand the dilemma with detectors and coils. Good job. Did the hunt satisfy your withdrawal or make it worse?

Great hunt and finds Smokey and V'. That is the way to save some CW History. I really like the brass regimental no. and the button, and all the other finds. Well Done to you both. My hunting Pard and I are going out Saturday to satisfy our need for Relics. He will be trying out his new Minelab Equinox 800 and I, the Whites 12" Super coil. We will do our best to have some Relics under the tree.

Nice post and finds.

You did very well, congratulations! :occasion14:

Congratulations V on the that beautiful button and I love that number 2. Congratulations on everything you got and thank you for all the help and great advice you’ve given us all year.

P.S. Tell smokey I’m getting the Deus in early 2019!!! She been beating me up all year and that Deus IS badass.

Good question. Satisfied for the moment, but the symptoms of withdrawal will return sooner. Lol.
