I’ve had this piece for a few years now. It was found in a TN creek. Shows some nice flakes removed on both sides. The fat end shows use wear and the end that tapers down shows some thinning but doesn’t show use wear on it. It’s a thick piece for the size of it. I’m not going to throw any guesses cause I keep changing my mind. Maybe you guys can give it a I.D. For me. I’d appreciate knowing. Thanks

What a terrific thread to learn from. Thanks.

We have Chert & Sioux Quartzite exposed on outcrops in our hills. In certain creeks the chert is all over, large nods everywhere. I am going to try to learn more about quarries so I can better understand what was going on here.

I have another I will post to just as soon as I can find it. I have a up coming date with a rake lol and if I don’t find anything then I will post the other.

FYI....the key to life....battery leaf blowers!

They also work great in little dry stream beads to make rock hunters happy!

Rakes work better for wet leaves but I’d be lying if I said it was easy. I did 2 bars and said I give up. I will wait for the winter rains if we get any. Must be in a drought right now. I didn’t find anything great so I will look for the other worked rock I have

you're the kind of newbe we like..... willing and wanting to learn.... we ALL learn from each other here, and don't judge. Hell, I am maybe the only blue dog democrat on this site (well known as such)and NO ONE gives me grief!

It's simply a piece of toolstone that was being examined for it's usefulness as to it's reduction for a tool or point. At this point it's nothing, as it was discarded due to inconstancies in the stone, making it a poor choice to continue to reduce any further.
