Whats This??????????

What's This?

Found this in an area where a Dragoon button was found. Not sure what it is for, it is a brass bolt about 3" long.

What's the diameter? My guess- a drain plug for the transom well
of a boat.

I would say about 3/4" diameter. Sorry, but it is at my office and can't check for sure.

Probably has many uses , but the drain plug on my boat looks like that & is made of brass so it doesn't rust. I'm guessing dia. is
3/4 or 1''.

my lawn mower has one on the bottom where you drain the oil, but it's made of steel

could be a drain plug from

an old car / truck / tractor?

or other type of machinery

I wouldn't think drain plug for a couple reasons, it's "shouldered" or undercut(meaning it isn't completely threaded), and most drain plugs are a finer thread.

I don't think it's a shackle bolt either, because of the softness of brass.

Pumps use alot of brass, or anything that is in conact with water (fresh or salt).

Smitty...you are correct..somehow I missed seeing that it was made of brass....a shackle bolt would be something alot harder or tempered. My mistake...

maybe it's an old water valve? for turning off the water?

Hi, that gap between the cap and the thread would possibly allow fluids, or gases, to drain before the screw got too loose
