robfinds, sorry to say it doesn't take long for lead to turn white. I recently threw out some lead shot that had turned white and powdered up in about 20 years. I put it into a coffee can about that long a go and put it up on a shelf and forgot about it. It wasn't even exposed to anything except heat and cold. I have a small collection of old shotshells from the 1920s and almost all of the lead in them has turned into dust over the years. Maybe that's just peculiar to lead shot but I wouldn't think so. Except that the one I posted is painted silver and not white like yours.
