What's the inscription on this ring mean?

Went back to the middle school football field yesterday; found this ring. I think it's gold, lightweight, and the inscription on the inside of the band reads 417- and next to the dash is the symbol of a diamond. The ring is a little beat up and bent, and the stone is missing. I searched the hole, but no stone to be found. Read 12 on the VDI. Also found this necklace pendent, a bracelet.

I am guessing that the 417 is just another way to say 10KT Gold -- 24/10 = .4166.

Hi Renegade, nice finds! That would be a 10K gold ring measured in decimal .417, the diamond is probably the hallmark of the company that made the ring. I found a nice gold bracelet yesterday, 585 or 14K gold. HH and congrats on the gold, Mike

From what I understand, a lot of imported European jewlery is marked in decimals these days rather the the karat. Nice finds!!
