Whats the best affordable metal detector?

Garrett Ace 250, maybe the Tesoro Cibola.they are both in the $200 range. for a little more maybe the Tesoro Silver uMax.

Better look at the F2 by fisher...

they're running an introductary offer where you get a sniper coil along with regular coil for $199.00.

I'd vote for the Tesoro Cibola, I found a lot of stuff with it before I switched to a Nautilus. It is a light, inexpensive machine with an easy learning curve

Ace 250 would be a great entry level detector. I had one and bought one for my wife as it is so easy to learn and use. Most definitely the best bang for the buck.

The best detector for a beginner would a simple switch on and go don't go for one with all the gizmo's a second hand detector might be the way to start of,then after a while you can trade it in for a better detector TK 8)

Alot of people seem to be raving about Fishers F2

Although I can't compare it to the Ace (since I've never used it) My White's Prizm II paid for itself in 8 months..it's VERY easy to use and has great pinpointing accuracy.

The Cibola runs 340.00 new ,the umax is cheaper. Most name brand beginner models will do well. I had a 250 and it has a lot of bang for the buck . It makes a great back up machine once you get into the hobby deep and want to move up the line a bit. Welcome and good luck. :)

keithjl,

My suggestion is the Tesoro Silver uMax,$239.99 new. Ask any of the pros here on TreasureNet, it's a great machine, super lightweight, easy to learn and lifetime warranty. If you need more info on it PM me. Joe

I was so impressed with the ACE 250 that I sold my older, high end detector. I plan on funding the new high end detector with money found with the ACE.

I have been hunting for 18 plus years and I believe I have had my hands on every detector known to man at some time in my life. I am introducing my son to the hobby now and he is using a Tesoro Bandido, that I have had as one of my backup machines for years. The Bandido is no longer made but has many of the features of the Silver Umax. I believe if I were pointing an adult to a beginning machine right now that is affordable and easy to use and will do a great job, I would point them to the Tesoro Silver Umax. You can watch EBAY and maybe even get a higher end older model Tesoro with more features but you don't see many used Tesoros on EBAY due to their warranty and the fact that they are good machines. You can't really go wrong with any of the brand named detectors but the Tesoro is just a really great deal for what you get for your money. Also remember that Tesoro has a lifetime warranty on their machines and they stand by it.

They just took my 1991 Tesoro Toltec 100 in for repair at no cost. That's right a 1991 Tesoro that I bought new and I am still using 16 years later and they are fixing it. Not to mention, this is the first time in the life of the machine that I have had to send it in. Also, I picked up the phone the other day and James, the co owner of Tesoro had taken the time to call me to discuss the problem I was having with it. That is impressive. So impressive that my sons will have a top of the line Tesoro as part of their arsenal when they progress to a point that I believe that they need it. The Tesoro will do you well and it will be a great backup machine for you if you ever decide to upgrade.

I also own a Garrett that I use for water hunting and a Minelab for the sandy beaches and they are both very good and I use them a great deal. I used White's for many years and they are tremendous good quality machines also. I have used Fisher machines but did not own one and they are really good too. I have said many times that I have never met a metal detector I didn't like.

You will find that getting one and learning how to use it to its full potential is the key to success. You can have a great machine but if you don't understand its abilities, it is not worth much more than a toy to you.

Good luck on your choice.

Jim

Best bang for the buck is the Fisher F2 for around $199.00 and it comes with two coils. I read a few great reviews about it. Garrett Ace 250 would be next, also great reviews and I bought one just to see what the hype was all about, nice machine for the money. HH, Mike

Bounty Hunter, there a great machine for the price I have a tracker IV and I love it.
