Is it heavy, like a lead bullet? It does look like a bomb. This is way out of my league. :tard: :tard: Very cool find, especially while out rock hunting. John

Still looks like a toy size to me, until I see it with something to judge the size, it only looks like it's a couple of inches long!

I used to play with one similar that used caps. But yours looks much heavier. Mine had a place to insert the caps behind a little plunger that would strike the cap and make a loud bang when the bomb would land after being tossed into the air or dropped from above.

It says it's about 11in. long..Is that in line with the pratice bomb?

He added that after we all asked, I'd still like to see a ruler sitting next to it! Still looks like it's rather small to me! :icon_scratch:

That's an iron practice bomb. A small charge is placed in the nose and it explodes and makes a puff of white smoke. That way a "spotter" can tell how close the bomb was to the target and score the pilot's delivery. It is designed to simulate the same glide path of a real 500 lb dumb bomb. I was stationed on a bombing range in the Air Force and we use to pick them up off the strafing range so they wouldn't cause ricochets. Of that I am 100% sure. Monty

As in early I mean as in the kind dropped out of the plane by hand.. WW1 or so..
Yet Monty may know more than I do.. LOL

They still used them until the advent of smart bombs and I suppose they still do if practicing dropping standard unguided ordinance. Could date anywhere from Korea to present? Monty

Still looks like a toy, can't be that hard to take a picture with a ruler next to it!

He said it was 11 inches long...why do you think he would lie about that??? Sheesh!
