What's it property tag..

I found this thing folded in 5 pieces in my backyard. After cleaning and separating (they fell apart), I was able to interpret most of what is written:

"FEEDIN_ _TATION"
"_ROPERT_ OF _ASTLE SHA_ _ _ _"
"SPORTMANS ASSO. IN______"
"DO NOT REMOVE"

My guess to what it says is:

Feeding Station
Property of Castle Shannon (Castle Shannon is town I live in)
Sportsmans Asso. in ?
Do Not Remove

I am missing the right side, probably still in the ground. Any ideas what type of "Feeding Station" would be used in a Sportmans Association? Or do you have another interpretation?

Sounds like a game feeder tag (deer) from a Sportsmans Association in Castle Shannon but I got nothing on the net..

I dont understand IN after ASSOC. :icon_scratch:

Actually it depends on the type of wildlife in your area. Pheasant, Quail, turkey, Deer? There are feeding stations set up for all kinds of game. They are used in the winter alot when weather is harsh and food is scarce. They are used to attract game, however you are not allowed to hunt within a specified distance from them. Of course who knows how it was back in the day.

Here is some reading that will give you an idea. It mentions feeders, conservation and hunting etc.

Re: What's it property tag..

There were quite a few of these type stations setup around the country in the Teen's and twenty's .
In the late 1800's and the turn of the Century company's had been hunting and canning wild game
for sale in stores .
Here in the Ozarks it got so bad that the Turkey and Duck populations was almost wiped out . There was hardly any wild game left for anyone to hunt .
That is when they started crude control of hunting and brought the game hunting for company's almost to a halt .
Game was brought in to help restart the areas that had been all but cleaned out . These stations were setup to help get the game going and to make sure they had food.

It was said that if this had not been done here in the Ozarks and around the U.S that a large part of our wild game would have been driven almost to the brink . It seemed to have worked as we have plenty of game now .
This may be what you have found in that tag , but I am not an authority on this by any means . I just read a big story about this a while back and that is how I learned about what had happened .

Do you know the history of your home?

All I know is the home was built in 1946, and the backyard is quite small, maybe 1/5 of an acre. In looking at an old aerial photo from the 30s, this area was wooded before the homes were built.
