Whats it for a friend, cross found on beach

Greetings all. An older gentleman who works the guard shack at the beach park we frequent, found this cross on the beach. Our beach was renourished last year with sand pumped from 3 miles offshore. He was convinced this was pumped in because it was deep and close to the water line. There is a small circle where a chain was attached on the top of the cross that does not look old to me. I told him I didn't think it was "pirate treasure" but a dropped piece. The cross itself is very cool and intricate. He said it was very green before cleaning...

Any thoughts or insight on this would be appreciated as I will relay all the info. Thanks.

It looks old to me but the beach will do that. It's gorgeous how ever old it is.

I don't know looking at back it has been in water a while, I guess I would try to find a "expert" in the area and ask them about it. Still a great discovery!!!!

I looked and looked, but don't think it's REAL old, though....

Who knows? It could have been dropped off a boat at any time and sucked up with that dredge.

Exactly, if the little attachment circle wasn't at the top I would think maybe it could have been...but you are right... he's not selling it or anything so "Hatian Vodoo" it is.

That is what he told me... funny old dude from, cough cough, up yonder... he hunkered down, looked side to side real shifty like and said... "Hatian Vodoo"

green means copper -- many crosses in old times were made of copper for the lower income class folks --silver for middle class and gold for the rich -- lovely little item
