Detector(s) used
Whites DFX & Beach Hunter ID
Primary Interest:
All Treasure Hunting
Here is what I take and I feel everyone should carry at least a few of these:

Camping Shovel- great for all types of ground
Trowel- great for getting into the sides of holes
(or a cutting shovel, like a leche, can be used instead of the above if you prefer)
Pinpointer- makes finding items much easier

Altoids tin with paper towels- protects large objects from tarnishing or being scratched up
Medicine bottle with cotton balls- protect small items from tarnishing or bring scratched up
~Copper and silver items can start to tarnish within minutes if left to open air too long~

Foldable pocket saw for getting through tough roots
Knee pads, if you prefer
Spare batteries (although they should be kept in the car due to their weight)
And a pouch to carry everything in

When I hunt parks ,I pack light , pinpointer , coin probe ,5 way painters tool for cutting the sod and detector.
Desert hunts I pack, detector , pinpointer, batterys, water ,cliff bar, propell , pick/ digger , backpack, SNAKE BOOTS, leatherman , Snake bite kit , gloves , Sunflower seeds , GPS , small container for the finds , cell phone , bunge , 2 carabener's.

Hello, am new here. I assume "propel" is an energy drink, but what is a "cliff bar" like an ice axe? And I know what carabiner's are but is the use for climbing? If so what about rope, pitons, ect? Hope you don't mind me asking.

they arent to bad WAY better then the power bars UGHHHHH

I don't know about you but I always rent a mini-U Haul to take all the stuff I need for the hunt. ::)

How's about this:

1. Detector.

2. Digging Tool of Some Sort.

3. Spare Batteries.

Although everyone will tell you that you really have to have about 50 more items... :P

I hear you there Buckles, BTW, my Brother is in a club in So. Cal. called "Surfers for Jesus" and he rides a hog. LOL Is serious.
I still don't know what the carabiners are for. I use them to keep my keys.
Maybe to hang stuff from a utility belt.

LOL Surfers for Jesus!

What I listed above is basic minimum. I've added a pouch or my vest to the mix for putting my finds, plus a jar with cotton balls for things silver coins or fragile buttons, and a pinpointer.

Really, anything above and beyond the "Basic Three" depends on what works best for you, and what you actually make use of.

Regards,

Buckleboy

Spelunker2 The 2 carabiners are for several purposes , first to hang my pick/digger from my pack < It 's handel is to long to hang from my belt, longer handel helps with the whole SNAKE thing > Second is to help carry larger finds to my pack. Thanks Edde for the picture of the cliff bar

In my belt pack (a carpenter's nail pouch with four pockets)

- a Gerber EZ-Out folder
- Two "golfer" size #2 pencils (also found in hardware store fastener isle)
- a 2" x 3" "theme" notebook for writing location, settings, VDI#, finds, depths for future reference.
- a digging tool (Lesche or my push blade, other stays in car*)
- in rougher terrain a chisel tip rock hammer on a hammer loop (roots & fossils)
- nickel in mylar coin flip (to test notch if I decide to set one)
- two small 4" x 6" zip loc baggies in case of good find (i.e. old coin)
- a probe (golf ball with 12" brass 3/16" rod epoxied in drilled hole)

In car
- quart of water*
- wet-wipes & towel*
- spare pinpointer (SunRay FX-1 on detector but just in case)*
- spare batteries*
- trenching shovel
- Snickers bars*
- Jerkey*
- 5 gallon pail for trash when at parks or private lots

If I'm hiking in I move the starred items into a haversack or backpack along with my lunch and add a compass and a Garmin 12XL GPS and may add a small relic shovel.

And always have a hat and a spare in the car along with some spf 30 sunscreen.

Good lists and I will use some of your ideas. Now, am I the only one that carries a gun? I have a permit, so I am legal.. Just wondering..

Jim

Nope, your not the only one! :)

I didn't put it on my list, but when I'm in the woods (as opposed to town parks or folk's lawns) I am usually carrying.

I also wear my Rattler headphone so one ear is open to the sounds around.

Oh, and one more to add with the forum here: a digital camera!

I drive a truck and it's a good thing, cause once the weather permits it's stocked. I carry shovels, waders, pinpointer, two detectors, backpack, a cooler with lots of drinks and some snacks. Some Saturdays I leave and make a day of it. Oh I forgot I also have a small first aid kit.
