This is a serious question for all the responsible conceal and carry owners. We have already established through numerous threads and several examples that the BoR does not apply to private establishments. For example: 1. You cannot shout fire in a crowded movie theater.

We all know that there is a growing contingent of pro-gun people that refuse to discuss any more restrictions or compromises to the laws already placed on guns and ammo. I can respect that point of view. I don't agree with it, but I respect that point of view.

Furthermore, there are already places where the 2nd amendment is limited as well. For example: 1. You can't carry a gun on a plane. 2. You can't carry a gun in a school. 3. You can't carry a gun in most stadiums.

Let us assume that the NRA lobby successfully blocks any changes or restrictions to current gun laws and things stay the same. There are 80 million supporting the NRA and promising that restrictions will lead to blood in the streets; however, there other dozens of millions that are tired of guns and violence and do not want them around their establishments. Without further restrictions on guns some people may strike back.

What would you do if hospitals stopped allowing guns (they are private?) Would you leave your gun to get treatment?
What would you do if Red Lobster, Olive Garden, and Outback stopped allowing guns? Would you stop eating there?
What would you do if Disney World did not allow guns? Would you never go?

When we get right down to it there are not a whole lot of places that people could not stop guns. Basically, any privately run place could stop somebody from bringing a gun in. What would that leave you? Your house, public transportation, public parks.

Something to think about...we share this society together. Refusing to compromise could lead to a very isolated existence.

Ahh dear Guinness drinking Crispin. I disagree with 80 million vowing blood. it may not be certified.
As to hospitals, restaurants, dizzy world, law varies. While you have not taken a required course information is out there for your area. No guns allowed in hospital for me.
If a restaurant derives a significant portion(50%?) In this state no gun.
One beer and i,m in violation if carrying.
There,a reply. Respectfully back at cha.

Yeah, the 80 million may be an exaggeration...I think I pulled it off of one of TH's previous posts.

Wow! That is some good information. Well then, let me change the question around a little...

For responsible concealed carry owners: What percentage of the time do you carry a gun outside of your house? If you keep a gun in your car then you can only count it when you are in the car.

Relevant...thanks for throwing me a bone.

I don't "carry", yet am pro-2nd Amendment. Had snub nose 38 & weapon training/permit for my job, years ago (VA DOC).
What I see in Virginia is some PRIVATE places are NOT allowing CCW, nor "Open-Carry"; rumor is that ALL PUBLIC places and State agencies will soon be NO GUNS ALLOWED. We will see...

I go to the VA Hospital, and I don't even carry a pocket knife in there. I go to the post office, I leave the gun in the truck. I go into certain parts of the courthouse, I leave the gun in my truck. In Oregon there is a law that if a business doesn't want concealed carry they can post a sign, and if you are caught armed in the store, you loose your permit. My bank doesn't want people in there that are armed. So I already live by some of your supposed restrictions. Also in Oregon, gun shows require background checks, a person can't just purchase and carry out the door. It's interesting to note that the guy that started to shoot up the Portland mall was cut short when encountered a man illegally packing in the mall, and when the shooter saw the gun being pointed at him he cut and ran into a stair well and killed himself. The Mall had a no carry sign posted. If the citizen wasn't there, with his illegally carried gun, the bad guy would have continued to have a field day shooting people. Oh yeah, I do carry in some places that have the sign, and others I choose to go someplace that doesn't care, there are plenty of those places, so I don't have to spend my money with the ones that don't want me. Which I'm sure they don't miss the pittance I'd spend there anyhow. Oh yeah, an interesting side note. Went to Cabella's the other day and they wanted all guns checked at the door. I didn't, and I probably won't go back, but not over that, I'd continue to carry in the store, I mostly didn't like the attitude and the prices. But that's just me and my experience, I'm not picking a fight with someone that likes the store and enjoys shopping there.

Crispin, unless it violates a law you can carry a concealed gun anywhere you wish legally if you have a concealed carry license..... If Red Lobster, Olive Garden, and Outback or even Walmart has a sign that says no guns allowed as you enter, you can still carry one concealed with a license, if it is spotted and management asks you to leave you can only be arrested for refusing to leave, not because you had a weapon on you... It is not against the law to carry a concealed piece in a business that says no guns allowed as long as you have the concealed weapons permint, it only violates store policy, not the law.........

Not allowed to carry in a bar, most restaurants have roped off or blocked off areas for the bar separate from the restaurant so would be legal in the restaurant, not the bar area......I am only speaking of Florida laws too, not the laws of any other states for concealed carry..

You can even carry in the tourists parks (Disney, Bush Gardens, Universal Studios) they search your purses and bags, not your person, Florida law does not exclude the parks so a concealed license is still legal. The parks don't like it and will ask you to lock it up if they see it but it is legal.

I did not know that. Thanks for the information. Where I work guns are not allowed. Obviously I don't search my patients before they come in so I don't know if it is respected or not. I treat a lot of police officers and they remove their guns before coming in. I tell them, "If you are on duty then I don't mind if you take your gun off." Their reply, "The last thing I need is some crazy person trying to grab my gun off me when I am getting help." The main reason I decided not to get a conceal and carry is I'm afraid it could provoke one of my unstable patients if they saw it. Also, my patients are about three to four feet away from me max. I'm much better off using martial arts then trying to draw a gun and use it that close.

The logic I was beating around the bush is...I spend over 50% of my time at work. If I don't carry a gun at work and assuming I carried it at every other moment, that would still cut my chances in half of every using it if needed.

If yer in Florida, TH knows...

My reply wasn't to try to convince you to carry or not, just giving information... In the state of Florida "No guns Allowed" signs on business doors does not stop someone with a concealed permit from carrying theirs, but if the business asks you to leave because they see you are carrying and you refuse, you can be arrested for tresspassing, but not for carrying....

I can understand why you don't want to carry, but the purpose of concealed is so they do not know you are carrying... How do your patients know your not carrying right now, do you tell them "I am unarmed"... there are some very concealed ways to carry....

Just as an example....Worn under your shirt and jacket if you wear a suit..... They also have conceal that is completely below your waist line as well... Just saying the purpose of "concealed" is so no one knows you are carrying it....

I use a keyed lock box to secure in vehicle when not taking it into a place. Or for an occasion where i would have a beer.
Box has a cable to secure it that would allow it to be in an unnoticed area of an office. Time involved if needing it but an advantage would be having it on way to vehicle after work. There are ankle holsters,no print holsters, various methods as mentioned, non advertised preferred.

TH: I know you weren't trying to convince me. I really appreciate the info. I don't wear a white coat...ever hear of "white coat syndrome?" That is the last thing I need. I wear a regular collared long shirt and a tie. I sit down to talk so my pants pull up a little bit. I'm also on the thin side. Anyway, I've decided not to get a gun. I may change my mind later but for now I'ld rather not. Perhaps as my son gets older we will both get permits and learn to shoot together. As for safety when I'm out of the office...I'm just learning to isolate more and more from society. Not intentional...just gets hard when everywhere you go in town you bump into patients.

LOL! I can sorta "relate"; wife & I have "bumped" into former ADULT & JUVIE inmates. (We met in the ADULT Max Security Prison; she had "Mental Health" case-load... a former Social Worker). She then became "Juvie" Probation Counselor & Magistrate... HA! NO fear; Life goes on... THOSE ppl may think, I still have my snub-nose 38... LOL!
