with my new tesoro, a clad penny

I dug a clad penny also. But, I had my Grand niece with me, and it was dated the year she was born. She was so happy with it, she asked if she could keep it and make a necklace with it.
Believe me I had just gotten it and knew nothing. I did find a couple of more pennies and a Quarter that day. So now I have had it for about four months and am some better with it. Takes time to learn, but fun. I think you have to be realistic and not expect to dig only money and gold here. All part of the fun.

Good lord, that was 40 years ago. I can't even remember what I had for breakfast this morning.

My first search was yesterday and my first object was a pinball from a pinball machine

Dunno if it was my "first" but the first I can remember was a penny back in 1978(?).

With a detector just like this one...

Some copper tubing, along with poison ivy roots I wasn't familiar with. Then wiped my brow.
Was so excited with first dig, I had to "tinkle". Not good!! Not good at all!
Calamine lotion was next days treasure.

I can't remember exactly what was first, but I do remember the first day, testing the detector in my yard, found about 30 cent in various coins, 4 Hot Wheel cars/trucks, a bunch of nails, a bunch of wire pieces, and the cherry on top was about 10 to 12 beer cans in pieces buried about 18", never did get all of the pieces out of the ground, I quit detecting in my yard after the beer cans, but I know where the past owners used to party, I could probably find a few coin spills if I could put up with the can slaw!!

I suspect that 99% of everyone dug a can shard or pull tab or basic trash on their VERY FIRST find. It took me a week to find a penny, then it happened a lot. martin

There were three of us teenagers with a WWII mine detector. A friends Uncle had a ranch with a place so old the only thing left was a fireplace and chimney, with an oak tree with a nine or ten inch trunk growing up the chimney. I remember the first thing we found was a fork near the fireplace. Found some cans and scrap iron, nothing small. But the first was a fork.

I turned on the ACE 250, the coil touched the ground and it beeped so I dug it.. It was a dime.

A D#%M Pull tab !! But I Did Not Give Up!!!!

My very first find was a live 45 caliber long Colt, in a city park. I find way too many spent rounds for being in the city.

Just got out and the first thing I found was half a toothpaste tube, riveting......

I only remember the good stuff, like the image, so the first must have been junk. Frank...coins_0004 1854 F_edited-1.jpg

Excluding the tabs and stuff, my first real find was a large horse shoe. I think it was either a horse shoe for playing horse shoes or a Clydesdale.
