I'd like to know how some of you have passed the time when you were unable to detect for health reasons family reasons or any other various life reasons I was unfortunate enough to suffer a massive stroke in April which caused me to be unable to detect I'm in physical therapy and working on recovering but it's a slow process and it's almost painful how much I miss detecting I thought maybe I could watch detecting videos on YouTube but that actually makes it even worse any thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated thanks

I was down for a month or so with back problems , I kind of know what you mean not being able to do anything...I was bored out of my mind and being it was summer , made it even worse.. like others stated , I spend hours on the computer , watched a little tv ( i'm not much on watching tv )read magazines and did what I could to get the back going again,,, all the best to you , take care

Joe- I'm very sorry to hear of your health issues. I broke my ankle while out detecting in the Fall of 2014 (slipped on a wet rock), and was out of the game for 6 months. I learned a couple of important things. First, physical therapy is an amazing thing! Over a period of a few months, those good folks helped me progress from not walking at all to walking without any type of assistance. For me, it with pretty miraculous! As you might guess, I'm a big fan. Second, I discovered NetFlix... Binge watching " Breaking Bad", and countless other movies and shows really helped to pass the time. As other members have already mentioned, I also spent a lot of time researching future detecting sites, cleaning up old finds, and watching too many digger videos.

I wish you a quick recovery, a Merry Christmas, and a healthier and happier New Year!

I was heavily into coin roll hunting between 2009 - 2014. I finally broke myself from the habit.
Was great during the winter months when I couldn't do much outside.
Great way to build up the old coin stack!

Joe, I was going to generalize and say research and reading. (like reading here too) In any case you've got incentive for a fast recovery and that's worth a great deal. You may need to take it in steps and I know that first hand as my detecting has been limited at times, but my major incident was 12 years ago. I'm still alive and kicking doing what I can, when I can.

Hi Joe, right now cos of the snow we are all suffering the "uncontrolled" down time. I had a double knee replacement three years ago and thought my detecting days were done, on my last visit prior to being sent back into society. I confessed to my surgeon what I did for a hobby and explained in detail what was involved, I didn't exaggerate when I told him that in an 8 hour period I could dig as many as 100 holes (small ones). He pondered that thought for a minute and advised " as long as the ground is soft" he couldn't see any problem with that the only thing he did tell me was that I could no longer kneel down.
Anyway while I was waiting for the healing process I looked over all my finds from the last 42 years and did some cleaning and studying new technology in our hobby, also research which is ALWAYS beneficial, because you had a stroke I think you will need to do "baby steps" again but I hope you get back at it in a more passive manner....HH....Bonz
