I was searching just outside the restricted area at a local county park with a working 1800's farm. The farm was owned by the Longstreets back in the 1800's.
Do you think this copper, silver plated ring fits the period(1850 - 1920)? The only mark is an "L" inside. I was thinking for Longstreet. What do you think?

Date wise, I'm thinking 1900 - 20. :icon_scratch:
As far as the 'L' referring to the Longstreet Family, it's possible, but it seems a bit of a stretch.

I'm thinking the 'L' more likely refers to the rings size.
Very interesting link too.

Thanks Dave for the helpful information. Interestingly the inside diameter of the ring is 18.04mm, slightly larger than the chart L. There might have been a different set of standards at some point.
I will show it to the park employees today when I go back there. The farmhouse was closed yesterday but will be open today so I can get a look at several paintings and pictures of the Longstreets inside with the idea that I might see the ring on someones finger in a painting/picture. Unlikely but that's my quest for today. HH GM

I thought it was a smoking pipe collar/ferrule...

I agree with Dave on the date range - early 20th C. Maybe a bit later.

Thanks for the info. Could very well be from a pipe. Very thin for a ring.
