What the hey, If the crew wants to go on a clad hunt at my spot, let me know...

LowBatts,

Montrose Beach. I've detected there for a few years now, and it's usually hit-or-miss, but never as bad as it was this morning. I got there fairly early and there were already sand sweeper tracks. But you know, it's still early in the season for that stuff. I often see others detecting there too, usually three to five guys in the water, and one or two on the dry sand. Seems like it attracts the newbies w/ cheap detectors in the summer.

Sometimes I hit North Ave beach too. I might try that one soon.

I'm not sure about which beach you had to pay to park, but it's free at Montrose and North Ave beach. Montrose Beach's parking is extensive, and that's an understatement.

Well, I stopped by the beach this morning to discover that the beach is almost totally clean. Not even much junk. I was there for about 15 minutes. I also stopped by Welles Park on the way home to hit the tot lot. NOTHING. That tot lot is always bustling with people, and I've always wanted to detect it. Today was a good opportunity, as there was no one there. I saw lots of signs that someone had been there not too long before me. Hope he/she did well! Should have, that place is huge.

So I went out and got my fishing permit. I'm gonna try to hook a largemouth or two later.

Fiend, hope you did better than me today! Grand total of 13 cents, woo-freakin' hoo. It costs 13 cents in gas just to back out of my parking space at the beach these days...

I hit wells park tot lot 3 days ago... Those big holes between the swing sets had to be made by an animal...my Se does not even go that deep... Don't feel bad...someone must hit it on a regular basis...was not alot there... There were alot of holes around when I went...but I know the squirrels hide alot of food in there....

Last year I did ok there also...but remember a lot of the tot lots are under construction being turned to rubber mats...

A-ha, so you're the culprit. I was wondering why I received zero signals. I was like...um...what the? I ended up hitting the tot lot @ Montrose Beach and did OK there. Always do. I even got a little pewter pistol and a sterling pendant.

Gregg, do you come up to the north side much??

Joe

LOL, I did the totlot at Montrose last month and got about $2, and got like $3 on the beach + a religious pendant and like a million beer caps and cans.

Once in a while...just so you know...in case you guys have not been finding them...there is a guy that leaves gold-n detector tokens for a company in Colorado alll over the north side parks.... They are good for $2.50 in trade... I have found 6 of them all in different north side parks...found 2nd one at Wells the other day. I am not really happy with the parks in Chicago at all. Have you noticed the grass is not getting cut once a week like it should be. I think my detecting season is about to get shortened, possible shift change to days for a while.

I am spending most of my time learning the Se, but I am still using the dfx. I am close to $300 in clad, but I saw someone on a forum at $600 already! :o I have been getting out 4-5 times a week...averaging $3 to $5 a trip... I have not had any really big clad days this year...just consistent.

Shorter hunts less pennies...really down on gold and nickels... Going to shuffle the dfx in a little more... Everyone I see tells me to hit the beach...I notice a lot of people are hitting the beaches! But sooner or later..or further away. The parks are getting tough, I am surprised when some of you guys are pulling over $9 in clad. Last year I had a few 200 coin days and a day with $18 in clad... Also over 30, 100 coin days last year. This year alot less coins, only a few 100 coin days, but the clad count still very good. I just picked up an extra lower rod for the Se...gives me a little more flexibility...

Well I am beat went out earlier...not much luck $2.92...no oldies... I have been tumbling and taking all the clad in monthly...a lot easier than 8 hours a day for 6 days just to show a picture of everything together like last year. But White's did give me a $100 certificate for story January 08 on their site, which was nice.

Good luck everyone.... :)

Gregg,

You are right, the parks are not as productive as they used to be. There are a few I hit that are tucked away and not very obvious that I do well at each time I go. One in particular, I just pulled like 60 quarters and 50 dimes out of in two trips. This is a CPD park, not a suburban park. TreasureFiend and the guys got me spoiled on the silver areas and now that those areas are somewhat inhospitable now, it's either the parks or the beach. I haven't ever found silver at any park...I suppose with an SE I might, but...oh well.

The park people certainly do not cut the grass enough. It's that long, wet grass in the early morning that gets your shoes all wet. You know what I mean. Lately I've been doing house yards and grass strips between the sidewalk and street. Been finding lots of oldies. Getting permission from anyone but family members has NOT been easy, though.

Good luck.

Joe... The parks are in horrible condition...glad you have a spot that is delivering those quarters in the city... do not worry i will not ask where... :D  I think if you find a spot and it is productive that is great... I am finding silver this year but odd...only one gold piece... Today I hit a 42-s merc and 2 wheaties a 53-d, and a 56-d. as well as $5.30 in clad this morning after work. Also I have been getting attacked by those little green nats or whatever they are... I feel like I am earning every penny this year...I was using the dfx for todays silver find. I also almost smashed one of my rechargeable battery packs for the Se...left it on the trunk lid and tried to shut the trunk while at park! Seems to still work...a little loose though...well talk later...good luck, Gregg.

Hey Greg and Joe, it's early, schools just let out, the hot, dry, gimme-ice-cream-and-soda-money kids wearing gold have not hit the parks in droves yet because of the rains.

You know darn well it picks up about two weeks from now, and really gets going after the 4th of July. Don't forget the ends neighborhhod and suburban festival season which is just getting underway.

Cheer up and charge up!

Good point I am finding plenty of clad but I have put the hours in also...4-5 days a week. But I am changing shifts for a while and probably will cut my hunts down to twice a week for a while... :( I hope you are right about the big days ahead... :) Gregg
