Looks like a replica of a 1 dollar gold coin, probably from a bracelet or necklace.

The small found item is a copy of a U.S. one dollar gold coin, bearing the date 1864. These turn up on occasion in sites dating from the 1860's and a couple decades following, and come in a variety of styles. Apparently at one time these were attached together, forming a linked chain, that was worn for adornment, either as a bracelet, or possibly a belt. I have yet to see a complete example, to ascertain the actual use of these during the era of popularity.

The value of a single imitation gold coin chain link, bearing a rough surface with limited details from harsh ground exposure, is of very limited monetary value, other than of course the thrill of the find, which can be priceless! :icon_thumright:

P.S. A polite inquiry in the headings here, avoiding four letter expletives, will likely garner the best response from the online community of experts and family of viewers.

Some years ago I saw a picture of one of those on a watch chain. Made to slightly imitate an old one dollar gold piece.
