it's has no indication it had sides. It looks more like it was part of a name plate or some sort of small placard type of thing. I see elements of possible gold plating. I'm going to have to clean it to investigate deeper.

My first thought is an old token. The type you used to see from amusement parks and such. Two dissimilar metals maybe like this one;
