What oil for an old HOT running Briggs and Stratton 5hp

I also wanted to ask what you guys do to keep your pull cords in good shape.
Should I use something like a mix of leather conditioner and Kiwi waterproofing? I don't really know here, just trying to think of what could keep the fibers strong and repel water.
A broken pull cord is the last thing that I would want to deal with after heading out to dredge. x_x
Somebody please refresh my memory, but if i remember correctly if you break your pull cord you can just take the shroud cover off and there was a cup under there that you could simply wind a cord around to get your engine started...... It's been a long time since i had one off

30w. Things run forever. I do not know why you would consider the quicksilver. Push the shut off ground with a dry stick or your boot.

Yes take the shroud off carefully. If the spring spins crank the spring back tight wrap the cord then push the cord out the hole of housing and slip shroud/housing back on. Then slip on the pull handle and tie your knot. You may have to pull it and adjust the knot a little more for the cord to return back tight to the housing.

If you carry para cord you can rewind anything. I have cranked boats and mowers in a pinch.

That's what it was.... you jogged my memory as i used to work in a lawnmower repair shop a long time ago and it's just like you say :)

Neo on my spring / fall equipment checks I look over everything that might go wrong when im out! my dredgeing location is a 16 hour drive oneway! soooooooo im going to make sure before I go and as luck would happen something always screws up when im gone so I carry lots of oddball parts and 2 tool boxes with the tools ill need. nothing worse than breaking down and NOT having the tools or the parts to repair it! it all fits into my 16 x 7 enclosed trailer.

Those fly wheel keys are cheap and take up zero room. However if you need one they're impossible to find in small towns. I keep a couple in my box, been there.
