Hello! I am new here and I am really enjoying looking at all this cool stuff and the comments are really interesting! I had an idea of what this is - here is my 2 cents.....maybe it is an old 'hole puncher'...you place it over some aluminum or leather and hit the tope with a hammer to make a hole or indention...that's the first thing that came to my mind....
Plumb bob wasa my first thought(though it does look like a dart point.) You didn't say what it's made of, but an old scratch-awl for metal work is what it looks like to me. Nice find. Good luck!
I was thinking it was a part for spinning cotton, but I thought all those parts were made out of wood. So maybe a plumb bob was a good guess. OTOH, The smaller end opposite the point, looks like it went into something.
