What looks like silver, has no marking and is not affected by magnet?

I found small metal item in city park last night. It has no markings on either side, looks like stainless steel or silver, and no reaction to a magnet

When I found it, I assumed it was stainless steel, looks like the letter C back to back,and has a ring like it was worn on a chain either necklace or key, but when I got to my truck I found it is not affected by a magnet.

What metals have no effect by a magnet?

They call it a nickel and its basically just another penny! Not surprising...But copper is expensive now so who knows what is next! Hopefully our detectors will pick up if changes are made....

Ok, dumb question, if nickel is magnetic, how come a nickel won't stick to a magnet?

pure nickel is magnetic american nickels are 35% copper so non-magnetic. exanimo, siegfried schlagrule

It's possibly a piece of hard chromed copper. Where does it register on your detector meter? That can eliminate some of the metals.

Could it be pewter, non-magnetic, can be shined up.
