What kind of penny is this?

I found this penny or I think its a penny. It has green on it so I assume its copper. On the front it has an indian head but more like a smaller version of it. I believe its 1881. On the back it has a shield but smaller than the new ones. I have it soaking. I don't know how to go about cleaning it.Any help would be appreciated. I will get a pic as soon as I can. Thanks

Probably an Indian Head Cent. If you post a picture of the front and back it will help us identify it. Does it look like this?

I'm trying it keeps saylng file to big I also found to sitting lib dimes to v nic and a Indian penny I found them where I pulled out a 1802 large cent in good condition a few weeks ago. .I'm from ma I pretty sure there never was a civil war here just king Phillips war but that was with Indians colonists .LM glad I found it cause this place would never have been detected and it would have been gone for ever I'll keep trying thanks

1881 is too late for a Civil War token. Could it say 1861? Would love to see a pic if you can figure out how to post it. Sounds like a nice find.

If you have any photo editing software on your computer you can use it to re-size your picture. Maximum jpg size is 5.25MB. Could this be your token? It is not uncommon to find civil war relics in your part of the country. Ma. sent a lot of soldiers into the war so they surely brought mementos home with them.
