metal.jpgI'm thinking that this thing that I dug on my first time MDing today is part of the insides of a pocket watch. It was at an old church. Am I correct? The wheat penney is just for size reference, I found the wheat penny today in my pocket change. My main question is: What kind of metal is the thing I dug made of? The only thing a magnet will stick to is the the gear shafts and the small screw next to them. The gears are even out if the same metal that the base is. It has a red color but I don't think it is copper, and isnt brass more of a yellow color? What do you think?
Sorry I didn't get pic the first time, trying again.

Brass,,It will turn that color being in the ground for years.
Take a file and file a little notch and you'll probably see yellow brass.

I am new at this so to me it's still a penny. Maybe when I grow up it will be a cent.
