I like the flying squirrel idea. I have seen a couple and they are small.

I realize you've already marked this thread as being solved... but I think this is a common, young Eastern Grey Squirrel.
I can also post a pic of the holes they dig in my backyard looking for food if you like? :laughing7:

Looks like Bill Murray finally caught up with his buddy from caddyshack.

Flying squirrel...yes! We had them in our attic...very cute until after catching 42 for release I called exterminator to find and block entry! I started painting their nails to see if we had repeats...which we did even though traveling them a couple miles from the house.

I know you painted their nails to ID them but in my mind this whole post went completely off the rails. Awesome! Made me forget what this post was initially all about and made my evening. Thank you! Instead of sheep, I'll be counting flying squirrels with painted nails. Lol

Yep flying squirrel. I posted a thread back in 2016 about one in our closet. He’d chewed through the Sheetrock during the winter to get into our closet. I didn’t have anything worth a damn in there anyways so I let him stay, one day I forgot to close the door, and he followed me upstairs to my bedroom doorway, and I went to lay down, and he came in, and sat on windowsill next to bed watching me. I couldn’t sleep. The thought of him chewing on me while I slept. I went to go pick him up, and the damn thing actually let me pick it up. I took him back to the closet and put him a towel, some food and water in there.

Flying squirrel makes way more sense than chinchilla.

I don’t know if it is legal, bit I have heard people actually have these as pets if bonding young enough.
