What kind of creature makes this kind of track?

I find these kind of tracks when I'm out in a plowed field hunting for artifacts. It's kind of like what a mole would make in the yard but on a much smaller scale. Well that's what it reminds me of anyway. Any ideas?

My vote goes for an insect that spends most of it's time underground, comes out after a rain, or when you water your garden. Common name is "mole cricket". Sorry I do not remember the correct name. They are very fast diggers....

I think the path/tunnel/burrow speaks for itself. All one has to do is look at how the thing comes in & out of the ground & follow the S shaped path it made. Also worms come to surface after rains,to mate or gather water for there skin or they will dry out & die.
You could be right. I have seen these and I have seen the crawdad holes all the time hiking the dry swamps. Wild hogs love to dig them up. I just always thought they were some kinda water bug but worm sounds good. Ill be following this post to see if you are correct.

Do you dig these up for fishing?
Sure BCH,
As a kid we dug them all the time. :D Back home the water was more brackish & supported bass, blue gill, pike,Etc.But here where we live now were to close to the ocean all sand & salt.So don't see many earth worms.Lots of marine type though.Anyway once we got older we found the trick for worms that made it easy to get them when you wanted.Take a old refridgerator tare out all the shelves lay it on it's back fill 3/4 full of dirt & through a hand full of worms in it.Feed them table scraps like potato peels, corn meal,& wet news paper keep damp & covered with plactic or door from frig itself. And they will multiply quick & always have them when needed.

Here's another shot and site for worms.

I cant believe I was right about insect. I never tried to dig one up but we have plenty of these things in Florida. Big ugly nasty ones. The best way to rid them from your yard is to let the armadillos eat them.

Good ID oddrock!

Good supporting pics timekiller.

Ive seen these trails many of times
they usually show up in the morning, trails are created in the night and depending on the worm,
earth worms, they leave a trail of dirt waste that they ingested. usually at night
I'm sure there is a wide variety of worms, just depends on the worm local to you
Look up night crawlers

Should we keep guessing? :icon_scratch:

What your seeing is waste expelled from a worm as thy digest the sand and soil as they travel

I noticed the green check mark, but didn't think anyone would mind my sharing this video of a mole cricket in action. I never heard of them until about an hour ago when I came across this thread. We don't have them here in southern California that I know of. We have potato bugs, but they are different from mole crickets.

Note: Video may creep you out and give you nightmares. So viewer be warned! Lol :laughing7:

WOW, that's really cool. I've never seen one before either.

SBB, aren't those potato bugs the ugliest things EVER?!!!!! Ewww, I always hated digging in the garden and coming across one unexpectedly. Alien looking things.

Here's a pic of one for those of you that don't have them in your area. Some get pretty dang big too
