A nice colonial buckle at that, I have one identical but mine does not have the "guts", so congrats on a nice find and display piece!

Thanks guys, I didn't think of a shoe buckle.... I thought maybe it was too big, and a little bit weighty for that, but after checking out the buckle sight you sent me i can be pretty sure it is. There are no apparent markings on it as far as manufacture goes. I have found many smaller shoe buckles, but this is the largest of them all... date seems to be 1700's as far as style is concerned..M
