Last weekend I was hunting the foundation of an old trading post (1840-1850) when I found an old stirrup and part of a wood stove. About two feet from this signal I got a real good penny dime signal about three inches across and 3-1/2" down. Hmm, okay. Well I stuck my shovel in the ground maybe a 1/2 inch and hit something solid. Turned out to be a rock. A large rock. Probably two feet long, foot and a half wide and three to four inches thick at the end I could see. Couldn't budge it with my shovel as a large tree root had grown over the top of it.

Tomorrow... I'm going digging. I've been waiting all week. I'll keep you posted.

well poopy...sorry to hear it was not a more exciting find after all that work. Still wanna see the pics though :tongue3:

No worries man you can't get all the goodies the first time you go. :-\ Sometimes you have to work a site 2 or 3 times before you start finding good stuff. :icon_scratch: You got out too so thats a plus as well.

Keep @ it and HH!! ;D

Found under large rocks that had good signals coming from them:
Shovel blade: 1
Other iron tools/implements: several
Pewter dinner plate: (horrible condition) 1
Beer cans: several
clad coinage: few
Gold: not yet
Silver: not yet
Valuable items: not yet

Lots of hope associated with rocks for some reason...

Phew, I was gettin' worried we'd never know!

Look at it like this, you can't EVER find the good stuff without going out to look for it...feel for ya that this rock had junk under it, but maybe next time will get sumthin' good :-) Just gotta keep pluggin away.
