Last weekend I was hunting the foundation of an old trading post (1840-1850) when I found an old stirrup and part of a wood stove. About two feet from this signal I got a real good penny dime signal about three inches across and 3-1/2" down. Hmm, okay. Well I stuck my shovel in the ground maybe a 1/2 inch and hit something solid. Turned out to be a rock. A large rock. Probably two feet long, foot and a half wide and three to four inches thick at the end I could see. Couldn't budge it with my shovel as a large tree root had grown over the top of it.

Tomorrow... I'm going digging. I've been waiting all week. I'll keep you posted.

HURRY and get back! I can't wait to see what you find!

Yeah, definitely let us know what you find... interesting that you'd get a signal underneath such a large rock.

If the cellar hole and well were filled in years ago--and the dirt was disturbed at all, it could be almost anything under that rock.

I just found an 1800 Capped bust LC under a rock last sat. Only mine was a little easier to move. My brother in law dug 2 seated dimes from a spot in NY under a bunch of rocks, so I SAY DIG!

LOL! That would suck!
I hope it's not a beer can! :o

Digger up.......I found a dollar signal under a large flat rock in a 1879 church yard about a year ago. Perfectly groomed lawn too. It was a shame but It's still there haunting me. Good luck

Ok, simple solution call in sick & get to it, why would you wait?! ???

Probably just the digging tool of the last guy that tried to move the rock.

or it could be a bottle cap,....face it, we`ve all dug to china just to read YooHoo

I hope its somthing cool, We dug a signal like that at the LBH it turned out to be a old cooper can lid took about 30 minutes to dig out

It was a metal plate of some sort. ??? Plate size. Has a rim on the outer edges. Has a "base" (smaller round area to sit on) on the bottom. I'll try to get a picture up soon.
I was really disappointed. Old site. Lots of iron, but nothing.. interesting.

Not a very good weekend. Hit an old homesite and found nothing but beer cans (corner of a plowed field now) and a few round metal rings. Two fence posts, let's see... a couple of rivets still riveted together but with nothin' in the middle.

Then went back to the old school site and hit a disc off of a (discer?) tractor. Part of a spoon from Oneida (mfg. 1920-1954). Looks to be silver plated .. over copper maybe?

Not one coin.. not one tax token.. not one .. halfway cool thing... kinda bummed me out.
