what is this?

I found two of these in an old home yesterday. what are they? Measure approx 20" in diameter, very old wood worn. has a stamp of 22 on one of them. Maybe a lid but to what? left is top view right is bottom view.

Welcome to Tnet. Looks like a base or pedestal for something? There was another piece screwed to the round part where there's no varnish.

Two of them, along with the center circle has me thinking about cable spools.

Was part of an old hat holder/hat form. Size was 22"; very common size. Hat would have had a flat brim all the way around. Probably had multiple hats.
