We think it's too hard for lead. We tried heating a small piece up and it would have softened up some for the time we had it over a flame?

Lead doesn't get soft, it melts.

I believe you have Antimony there? HH
BK

You might be right..

I read the most important use of Antimony metal is used as a hardener in lead for storage batteries. And I read where Antimony Trioxide is the most important of the Antimony compounds and is primarily used in flame re tard ants formulations.
That would explain why when we sat a small piece on a stack of pennies and the piece did nothing. When we removed the piece it wasn't warm to the touch but, the pennies were.
Sounds like it might be this.

When we put a flame to a small piece sitting on a stack of pennies. The pennies heated up faster then the mystery piece? The piece showed no sign of doing anything but, getting warmer but not as warm as the pennies.
Hope that made sense.

Thank you for your help. Not really sure where I could have it tested not that it's that important. Until somebody tells me different or I have it tested somewhere I'm going with Antimony.

Thank You again!!
