What is this?

I found this in williamsburg VA. It was about 6-8" deep. It weighs about 1 LB and it's about 2" wide. The front appears to be made of copper due to the greenish tint and no rust. The back is pretty rusty and I can't tell if there is any design. My wife thinks it may be an old doorknob but it seems too small. Thanks for any comments.

oh I know what it is, it is cool!

Its a miniature manhole cover.

Looks similar to the base of a garden sundial!

Cool find! Methinks it is a shield for a newborn Dwarf, could belong to Glumly son of Gimli son of Gloin.

Seriously, could be a drain or electrical box cover.

Very cool! It is a sundial base. If you do a google search. You will see some with the same symbols and star. Couldn't find an exact match. But alot of modern ones similar
