End of an old ramrod, maybe?

Yes, for a shotgun to be exact. From the size it looks like a larger bore shotgun. Might not be all that old, I can see the pin that held the tip on the wood rod, and if there is still wood in the the tip, that would show it isn't so old the wood decayed away. It would be interesting to know where you found it, out in a big field or in the woods, kind of out by itself? Just curious, because every now and then someone forgets and shoots the ramrod out of the gun, and I'm wondering if that's what happened.

Haha I found it an old house site. I find lots of shotgun brass ranging from1890-1930s. House is from those years or so. There were a lot of houses on the property. I found a silver spoon there today.

Keep in mind that people didn't jump right over to breech loading shotguns. Especially poor folks used muzzle loading shotguns even after they might have purchased a breech loading rifle. So your ramrod tip could date clear through the 1930's. Now, since the bi-centenial in 76, people are shooting them again.

I highly doubt it's from past the 30s. There is a school there and i highly doubt somebody would shoot a shotgun next to a school (at least I hope not). I've found a bullet from the 40s there. My mother lived on that plot in the 1970s and nobody owned a shotgun. It was torn down shortly after that. There is SO much history on this little plot. 5 houses, WW1 training camp, an old district office and a railroad station. It's maybe 1-3 acres.

I recently found one of these on our lake property in Eatonton, Georgia at Lake Sinclair. There was no evidence of wood left in this one. Also found an old horse shoe with a few of the tacks still on. There are historical markers on the main road nearby regarding the Blountsville Battle when Sherman marched his troops from Atlanta through here to the Seven Islands.
