Found this bowl shaped piece of brass with what looks like a rivit in the middle , it's a bit larger than a penny ? Any ideas

Looks like a coin button. Are you sure it's a rivet and not a shank? Does it go all the way thru?

White backgrounds often make objects dark because the camera focuses on the white , try a darker back ground and get the light behind the camera but not shaded by it.

The dark pic looks like part of a shotgun casing but a lighter pic may reveal its true identity

I get loads of these, I used to think furniture decor, but most stay they are horse harness decor.

i believe it is the remains of WWII army enlisted mens collar brass...should be crossed rifles or cannon on the piece, the rivet is a screw to hold the pin to the back, the insigna on the front.
the army used that severe dome during the war, later pieces were flat.

Doesnt look like a collar brass. I go with the bell. It would help to post a side view so we can see the height of the dome. Hard to tell.

Actually it could be a post WW2 two piece "dome" type collar disk, we'd need to know it's actual diameter to confirm that. I put one in my caliper and got a measurement of 1.03 inches.

Great link Ken. I need to save that one.

I agree an exact measurement will clarify this.
