It's exactly the same on both sides.

Does it look as if something has broken off at the bottom :dontknow: It's very similar to a Horse Terret Swinger.

Frame for a magnifying glass?

Could it be a mirror or magnifying glass holder, bu if the opposite side is exactly like that the answer would be no.

I know nothing about horses, except when ever I ride one, I am always behind another horse that seems to have eaten beans for breakfast. I think Cudamark is correct. A frame for a magnifying glass.

I think we need to know if there is a groove on the inside of the hole that a piece of glass or mirror would fit into. (I believe clock pendulum weights were adjustable to move up and down on the vertical piece, but don't know how I know that.)

One thing that I can be very clear on: it's frigging awesome!! - nicely detailed, great for display, and so far, a mystery! :icon_thumright:

I agree with Cuda in that it looks like a magnifying glass. Many of those were ornate during the Victorian period. What kind of metal is it?

Neat find :)

A door knocker
A victorian mirror
A victorian magnifing glass
A doohicky
A Thing-a-ma-jig
A whatzit
A "whatever that is"
