What is this thing.... NEW INFO

hi all found this in local park today, around 7 inch's down and under 3 roots. it's heavy and about the size of you mouse for your computer, it looks like it was painted silver, there is no writing on it that i can tell.

any help would be greatfull

Could it be a Branding Iron? I see the letters "J" & "L"..left to right.

alright peeps, i have been reading over all the comments that you all have been leaving and i have to say they are funny. i would post pics but my camera crapped out on me so ill just put down the measurements. long 3 1/2 height 2" the shaft as breezy puts it is 1 1/2.....

branding iron NO it was once painted to look silver, and i sure has heck don't see to dolphins doing the funky chicken thing, that just let's me know what you all are thinking about.......

now some one of of Tnet said they think it might be a old crank doorbell ringer, i have never heard of one of these so I'm just putting it out there for you'll to think things over............................

After reading the measurements, I agree with a couple of others, could be a door knob.
