I need help finding out what this is. I found it in south Texas along with 12-15 arrowheads and abunch of broken ones. Is it an axe head or something else. You can tell it has clearly been chipped but I'm unsure what it is. It is roughly 4 inches long by 3 inches wide and the non-chipped part is very smooth.

Or is that a stone broken by a D8, plow, wagon wheel or other mechanical means.

I'm not seeing that as being a worked artifact.

Therefore, the statement; If I were to catalog this rock (stone) into a collection, I would utilize the same reasoning by questioning its validity...

Without throwing stones or peeing on your Post Toasties, in my opinion, its a JAFUR, at best.

Please forgive me for being rude in not welcoming you to TN...and this thought provoking topic...

Stephen... You remind me a bit of me. Sorry about that..ha..

More than likely a Chopper used to break open Bones to get to the Marrow inside. You can find those on almost every camp or village site. They weren't pretty but they were very functional for their purpose.

Also, I think a JAFUR stands for Just A F#*^ing Ugly Rock. But I could be wrong.

Thanks Reaper! That cat Stephen is bad about putting nonsense down and not explaining it. I can't figure out where he gets his kicks. If a joke has no punch line, or the punch line is so ridiculous it practically doesn't exist.... What do you have? Not a joke. Any way, don't let me get you tied into any mess! Thanks again!

Since you have asked "What Is This?", you have opened the door to both positive and negative commentaries.

Having said that, a person can find any number of water-worn rocks of a similar shape that are just that, a water-worn rock.

What is shown is a portion of the same...which does not necessarily mean it was an actual tool.

If I were to catalog this rock (stone) into a collection, I would utilize the same reasoning by questioning its validity...

And if its found inscribed within a cluster of arrowheads, say a 2' X 2' grid, as opposed to a large field, it may or may not attribute to its assumed relationship...

Are the arrowheads a dropped cluster or the result an open-field hunting adventure?

See! You have the ability to explain yourself. Why don't you do this a little more often? Why try to put someone's find down in code?? Come on bro!!

Would it have been better if he called it a sex stone?

At least we know what that is. The piece is actually worked. So what, it's not the prettiest piece. A new member comes on here, might I remind you, with an artifact, and all they get is a smart ass reply that is not only incorrect, but is left unexplained. That isn't right. The person is new on here. You don't tell people on their first post that they have a sex stone. It takes an egotistical S.O.B to do that. Do you know what S.O.B stands for? If not, I will at least tell you, if you ask!

So evidently that same plow or mechanical device hit it numerous times form several different angles therefore giving it that look of being flaked from both sides of the stone to give it a blade edge look. I want to meet that farmer because he is damn good on his tractor.

I agree with that one.

Not sure what the fuss is all about, seem's like an obvious artifact to me. Anyone who thinks this could have been done with a D8 just doesn't understand heavy equipment. Cool find, welcome to the site.

maybe this help explain what it is. All these were found in the same general location.

I'd say the first piece show is almost certainly exactly what was described earlier, a chopping / butchering artifact. Nice finds. Welcome to the site.

Thanks. Its a 600mile drive to where i find these and i look forward to it everyyear. We own the land for deer hunting.

Yikes! That is one heck of a pull. It's worth it though. Are those just one year's finds, or found over years? Either way they are nice. You knew that wasn't an " ugly cussing rock" I'm sure.

All found in the same year. And yea i could tell it had been chipped just wasnt sure what it was.

Really good for one season!! I'm glad some of the seasoned guys got your chopper identified for you as well.

I don't see any evidence of this pc ever being altered by man except on the edge they used for a chopper

that was dedicated to steve "my best friend" Valentine

I love you brother :headbang:

Looks like they were going to make a Kerville knife out of it and then changed it to a chopper.
