What is this? Ideas?

I am very new at Metal Detecting. My wife and I got one for Christmas and we are just beginning to figure things out. One of the things we are currently trying to figure out is what the heck is this thing we found today... We found it in north Florida near a public man made retention pond. Any ideas or help is welcome. Thanks.

I wouldn't throw it away just yet, soak it in apple cider vinegar for a few days, wire brush or wire wheel it and see if you(or we) can figure it out. It might just be some scrap junk....but ya never know. I personally enjoy a good mystery find, currently working on trying to figure out what might, maybe, could possibly, perhaps, feasibly, more than likely be a door knocker....but the jury is still out.
So keep up the hunt and g'luck solving your first mystery.
